Ingredients

  • 1 (16.5 oz) box red velvet cake mix
  • 1 cup water *for cake mix
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil *for cake mix
  • 3 eggs *for cake mix
  • 1 lb butter *room temperature
  • 6 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 TBSP heavy whipping cream
  • Orange food coloring
  • 18 Halloween Peeps

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to temperature listed on your cake mix instructions.
  • In a mixing bowl, add your cake mix and other ingredients instructed on the cake mix box (mine called for water, vegetable oil, and eggs).
  • Mix together until well incorporated. Pour an even amount of cake batter into two springform pans.
  • Bake according to package instructions.
  • While the cake is baking, prepare your buttercream frosting.
  • Add the butter to a mixing bowl.
  • Beat butter until it's light and fluffy.
  • Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy whipping cream.
  • Beat for a few minutes until well incorporated.
  • Squeeze orange food coloring into the buttercream frosting.
  • Stir together with a spatula until the color orange is consistent throughout the frosting.
  • Once the cakes are done and cool to the touch, begin assembling the cake.
  • Lay one cake flat on a cake stand. Spread buttercream frosting on top of the first cake.
  • Add your second cake on top of the frosted first cake.
  • Spread the rest of the frosting evenly over the entire cake, including the sides. You should not be able to see any of the red velvet cake.
  • Add Halloween Peeps all around the sides of the cake.
  • Spray the black edible spray and the silver edible dust over the top of the cake.
  • Top the cake with toy spiders.
  • Serve and enjoy!
