Build Your Own Sushi Bowls

All of your favorite sushi ingredients in bowl form. Well, technically these are my favorite ingredients. Use this as an idea/guide and use YOUR favorite ingredients.

What You Will Need

Sushi rice, rice wine vinegar, sugar, salt, imitation crab, cream cheese, avocado, cucumber, fried onions, mayonnaise, ketchup, butter, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce are all the ingredients you need for this recipe. You will need a rice cooker or small pot to cook your rice and that’s the only cooking required!

Step by Step Instructions

First, cook your sushi rice. I have a rice cooker which makes things a breeze. Cook the rice according to your rice cooker or package instructions.

While the rice is cooking, start working on preparing your other ingredients. Go ahead and chop up your imitation crab into bite size pieces.

Imitation Crab

Add cream cheese to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30 second increments until smooth and melted. In a large bowl, add your chopped imitation crab meat. Stir melted cream cheese into imitation crab meat until well combined.

If you haven’t already, dice up avocado and cucumbers. I peel my cucumber before dicing.

Now, make your special sauce. Combine mayonnaise, ketchup, melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, sugar, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl. Whisk until well combined. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Special Sauce

Once rice is cooked, add rice wine vinegar, sugar, and salt to rice. Stir until well combined.

Now your bowls are ready to assemble.

In your individual bowl add your sushi rice, cream cheese imitation crab meat, diced avocados, and cucumbers.

Top with your special sauce and fried onions. Enjoy!

Tips & Advice

Dice your avocados by cutting your avocados in half and removing the pit. From there, using a paring knife, carefully cut slits across the avocados both directions without breaking the skin. The diced avocados should fall right off the skin when you try to “push” them out.

Sliced Avocados

By fried onions, I mean French’s fried onions!

I love build your own bowls like this because I just set everything out and then my family can each add as much or as little of each ingredient as they want- everyone is happy!
