Beef & Potato Bowls

A loaded bowl very similar to my mashed potatoes and chicken casserole recipe, except with beef.

What You Will Need

Beef, potatoes, milk, sour cream, butter, brown gravy mix, cream of chicken soup, corn, and shredded cheese are the only ingredients you need for this simple recipe. You will need a skillet to cook the beef in and several pots for preparing the mashed potatoes, brown gravy, and corn.

Step By Step Instructions

Brown your ground beef until cooked through and no longer pink. Drain the grease and season with preferred seasonings.

While the beef is cooking, peel and dice the potatoes and boil them in a large pot of water until fork tender. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, sour cream, salt, and pepper and mash until they are your preferred consistency.

In between all that, prepare the brown gravy. Add the brown gravy mix to a small saucepan and add the cream of chicken soup and half a can of water. Heat on low and whisk frequently until warm and smooth throughout.

Add your corn to a small pot and heat on low until warm, stirring occasionally.

It’s all hands on deck making this, ha! It doesn’t take very long, but all 4 burners are going.

Tips & Advice

Feel free to use whatever seasonings you want while making this! I actually used a steak seasoning for the beef! A pretty basic seasoning choice would be salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder if you are looking for some seasoning guidance.

Your ingredients should be hot enough that the cheese melts on top of your bowls, but if the cheese doesn’t melt, just pop it in the microwave for about 30 seconds so you get nice gooey cheese.

I highly recommend shredding a block of cheese as opposed to buying pre-shredded cheese. This is a simple thing you can do to make this recipe taste even better! Use whatever kind of cheese you would like. I used Colby Jack because it’s what I had on hand.

Making build your own bowls for dinner is one of my favorite things to do for my family because each person gets to customize the ingredients to their taste buds! If you are looking for more build your own bowl ideas, check out my build your own sushi bowls or these breakfast bowls.
